Newport Networks Limited announces MediaProxy 1460

CHEPSTOW, UK, October 1, 2002 -- VON Fall 2002: Newport Networks Limited announced its MediaProxy 1460, a carrier class IP-to-IP Media Gateway. The MediaProxy 1460 enables Service Providers to generate new revenue streams by allowing them to Connect, Control and Charge subscribers for accessing and using SIP-based services.

Intended for use in Service Provider access and interconnect environments, the MediaProxy is modular, resilient and is easily configured and managed. Deployed in the access environment, the MediaProxy can enable corporate subscribers to connect securely to SIP services without upgrading their existing CPE infrastructure.

Designed to support up to 2 million concurrent IP sessions, the MediaProxy 1460 has the capacity to support the equivalent of over 100,000 simultaneous 64kbps voice channels and the performance to handle 2,000 call establishments per second.

The MediaProxy can be controlled via SIP signalling messages or via its Megaco interface, allowing deployment in a wide variety of applications where QoS management and Charge Detail Record generation capabilities complement its NAT/Pinhole Firewall functions.

The Newport Networks' solutions are ideal for Service Providers who want to deploy IP telephony services and extend the reach of IP telephony to a global consumer and business market. These include:

  • Broadband Service Providers offering voice and multimedia services over IP (VoIP and MoIP).
  • Mobile Service Providers using SIP for multimedia instant messaging and MoIP applications.
  • Service Providers offering multimedia transit services that require secure, low cost IP to IP interconnection.
