NEWPORT NETWORKS AND OPERAX ANNOUNCE TECHNOLOGY PARTNERSHIP
Chepstow, UK. May 10, 2005. Newport Networks, the developer of carrier-class VoIP Session Border Controllers and Operax, the Independent Software Vendor of products and solutions for guaranteed QoS and bandwidth management, announced today they have agreed a technology partnership to achieve full interoperability between the companies' products. Under the terms of the agreement Newport Networks and Operax will work together to ensure that multi-purpose IP networks offer consistent quality for voice and multimedia services.
The partnership will result in a series of technical advancements that are appropriate for both core and access networks based on the IMS architecture defined in the ETSI TISPAN standards. The Newport Networks 1460 Session Border Controller's advanced signaling and media firewall functions, which already provide sophisticated QoS features, will be reinforced by the network resource control functionality, including resource and policy based admission control, developed by Operax.
Anders Lindén, CEO Operax, says "together we can combine Newport Networks' carrier class session controller with Operax's world leading products for QoS and bandwidth management. Collectively we can offer service providers complete service quality solutions for converged next generation networks".
The partnership combines Newport Networks' deep packet processing expertise and Operax's bandwidth management knowledge and skills. It is based on Newport's 1460 Session Border Controller's existing QoS functionality and the Operax Bandwidth Manager, a network resource control system for packet networks and allows operators to migrate current and future services onto a converged infrastructure.
"This is a unique partnership that aims to achieve an industry first. Our customers will have access to enhanced levels of QoS via inter-working with external control devices. At the completion of the trialing process the Operax Bandwidth Manager will be capable of inter-working with the Newport Network 1460 Session Border Controller. Together we will deliver essential quality of service components compliant with ETSI TISPAN standards for IP-based voice and multi-media services" commented John Everard, Chief Executive Officer, Newport Networks.
