Newport Networks Sesson Border Controller

Newport Broadens Portfolio With New Smaller Border Gateway

Boston/Caldicot, 12th September, 2006. Newport Networks, a leading developer of Carrier Class Session Border Controllers today announced the expansion of its portfolio with the launch of the 310 Border Gateway.

With the strong momentum in IMS, Tier 1 operators are quickly beginning to move from integrated Session Border Control to a model where media handling is separated from signalling. Some require 3rd party control of the Border Gateway, others require signalling processing to be performed in a few well protected nodes in the network, many are building convergence ready architectures that mandate signalling and media separation.  This customer draw has led Newport Networks to broaden its distributed SBC portfolio with the introduction of the 310 Border Gateway range which can be employed in distributed architectures.

From under 1,000 media sessions to over 35,000 in a compact chassis, the 310 Border Gateway provides the operator with the granularity required to optimise network design and push media handling to the edge of the network.

Using the 310 Border Gateway for small and medium scale locations and the Newport 1460 Border Gateway for large deployments, Newport now has a range of Border Gateways to suit all sizes of operator requirement.  Responding to operator demand for a standardised control interface, the product can be controlled via a Megaco/H.248 interface by the 1460 Border Controller or a 3rd party Softswitch.

"Newport Session Border Control solutions have been designed for distributed architectures from their inception," commented Alan Nunn, Chief Technology Officer at Newport Networks. "The addition of the 310 Border Gateway widens the appeal of this solution to operators and increases our lead in distributed solutions." He added.

The Newport 310 Border controller will be on show at stand 1161 during the Fall VON exhibition and conference in Boston and is available to order immediately.
