Newport Networks Sesson Border Controller

CLARO CODETEL deploys Newport Networks' 1460 Session Border Controller in Voice over IP Network in the Dominican Republic

Caldicot UK, 3rd August, 2007 – CLARO CODETEL, a Telmex company and the Dominican Republic’s principal telecom service provider, has selected Newport Networks to provide session border controllers (SBCs) for their next generation Voice over IP (VoIP) network. This network allows CLARO CODETEL to consolidate existing services and offer new revenue generating services such as advanced contact centres; operator services; Voice over IP VPNs (Virtual Private Networks) and primary voice services to both enterprise and residential customers.

CLARO CODETEL has deployed the Newport 1460 to fulfil two critical roles within their VoIP network. The first is to provide secure, managed connectivity between their access network and core network.  The second is to provide security between their core network and the networks of peering carriers.

Newport's 1460 session border controller offers secure access to CLARO CODETEL's extensive services for their business and residential VoIP subscribers. The 1460 provides secure NAT traversal and monitors traffic levels to ensure that customers receive a consistent service quality. The 1460 also provides protection for both subscribers and core network elements from Denial of Service (DoS) attacks.

CLARO CODETEL subscribers are offered seamless local, national and international connectivity through an extensive list of over 30 peering partners. The 1460 SBC provides the security for all the VoIP peering connections from CLARO CODETEL's network. This includes topology hiding, which ensures that sensitive information about the internal network architecture is not passed on to the peer networks. The 1460 also prevents propagation of DoS attacks from one network to another thus helping to maintain a high level of service availability.

"CLARO CODETEL selected the Newport SBC because of its ability to scale to meet the demands of our growing VoIP Network." said Robert Laracuente director of Planning for Wireline at CLARO CODETEL. "Newport's 1460 offers us the carrier-class capabilities that we need to build out our network and offer reliable services to our customers."

"Newport's flexible, distributed architecture offers fast-moving customers like CLARO CODETEL the option to start small and grow fast," commented Manolo Blanco, Vice President of Caribbean and Latin America at Newport Networks. "Newport has worked closely with CLARO CODETEL to ensure that our product not only provides the service level they require today, but also offers a clean migration path as their network coverage expands".
