Newport broadens capabilities with latest software release and 310 Session Border Controller
New Session Border Controller offers added resilience for smaller scale VoIP deployments
Caldicot, 30th October, 2007 - Newport Networks, a leading developer of Carrier Class Session Border Controllers, announced today the introduction of its latest software release that delivers increased high-availability features and higher performance. The software also allows the multi-processor 310 platform to be deployed as a Session Border Controller (SBC).
Responding to the need from operators for flexible, medium scale deployments, the Newport 310 Session Border Controller offers the same emergency call handling, session admission control and link aggregation group features as the original 1460 SBC in a smaller form factor. These features work in conjunction with the signalling and media policing features to ensure that bandwidth usage is controlled and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are maintained
"Newport Session Border Control solutions have been designed with the needs of carriers and operators in mind. With the increasing number of medium scale deployments and a growing need for versatility, the 310 SBC is positioned to respond to such requirements," commented Belal Ali, Director of Product Management at Newport Networks. "The addition of the 310 SBC widens the appeal of Newport’s portfolio to operators and increases our lead in high performance, high availability SBC solutions."
Newport's new software stream delivers the same features and increased performance across all platforms. The 1460 and 310 offer users access to a range of new resilience features that provide added protection against network outages. These new carrier-grade features also include load balancing capabilities across multiple call agents, allowing calls to be diverted to active devices in the event of primary device failure. In addition, the software offers configurable congestion control that provides a further level of protection from network overload conditions.
The addition of new features to the latest software stream has been achieved while simultaneously increasing the performance of the software. The 310 SBC can comfortably handle over 100 calls per second and 20,000 concurrent calls, while a fully redundant 1460 SBC will handle 500 calls per second and 90,000 concurrent calls
The Newport 310 Session Border Controller will be on show at stand 236 during the Fall VON exhibition and conference in Boston and is available to order immediately. Full details of the latest software features can be found at www.newport-networks.com/cust-docs/99-3x-software-data-sheet.pdf.
