Session Border Controllers hold a unique position in VoIP and Multimedia networks. They form the boundary point between (1) access and core networks and, (2) between core networks in the case of interconnect and peering. In essence they form the gateway into and out of the Carriers core network.

Newport Networks' product range has been designed to give the operator maximum choice of how Session Border Control functions are deployed. A uniquely flexible architecture allows media and signalling to be integrated or distributed and for media to be controlled via a standard Megaco/H.248 interface from 3rd party devices.

Integrated Session Border Control

1460 Session Border Controller. Quite simply the largest scale, highest performance SBC on the market today. The 1460 is ideal for high volume traffic applications such as Interconnect and Peering or where access traffic is aggregated into a small number of SBC sites.

310 Session Border Controller. Based on the same proved hardware as the award winning 1460, the 310 SBC offers all the same software features in a smaller form. Ideally suited to smaller networks, the 310 SBC offers multi-processor performance in an entry level package.

Distributed Session Border Control

In this architecture a centralised Border Controller manages a network of distributed media Border Gateway Functions. The architecture is typically used where operators have invested heavily in a few key nodes where network intelligence is deployed. The Border Controller is deployed at these high-availability sites. Border Gateways are distributed around the network near customer access, Interconnect, and Peering points.

1460 Border Controller - Recently proved at 1,000 Calls per Second, the 1460 Border Controller provides the capacity needed to control a network of Border Gateways. It provides SIP signalling firewalling, Session Admission Control, Lawful Intercept for signalling, Emergency Call prioritisation and routing. The 1460 Border Controller monitors Gateway availability within the network and adapts media allocation if a failure of resource occurs.

310 Border Gateway - From under 1,000 media session to over 25,000 in a compact 4U chassis, the 310 Border Gateway provide the operator with the granularity required to optimise network design and push media handling to the edge of the network.
